Foreign Currency Business

GTB is engaged in foreign banking activities commencing 24th August 2012 when the authorized dealer license and money changer license granted by CBM by opening Nostro Account with correspondent banks as follows;

1. Punjab National Bank (Formerly United Bank of India)

2. Krung Thai Bank (Thailand)

3. Kasikorn Bank (Thailand)

4. Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (Vietnam)

Establishing RMA (Relationship Management Application) with four foreign banks. As follows;

1. BIDV (Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam)

2. ICBC (Industrial and Commercial Bank of China)

3. Shinhan Bank (Korea)

4. Busan Bank

GTB is carrying out export/import services, bank guarantee service, trade financing and cross border business. Currently contact is being made with Punjab National Bank from India to be able to carry out India-Myanmar cross border activities. In this regard, Special Rupee Vostro Account (SRVA), a new trade mechanism to settle international trade in Rupees has already been opened.

Furthermore, concerning cross border trade matters, the Central Bank of Myanmar on 26th October in 2023 granted GTB as the designated bank for making Baht/Kyat direct payment for Thai-Myanmar border trade and Yuan/Kyat direct payment for China-Myanmar border trade to facilitate the business activities of the importers/exporters. The CBM on 31st July in 2024 again granted GTB as the designated bank for making Rupee/Kyat direct payment for India-Myanmar border trade. Persistent efforts are being made year on year to keep abreast of other domestic banks.
